A Round Dance is a couples' dance where all of the dancers are doing a set routine to a musical arrangement. |
The "cuer" prompts the various moves as the dancers perform them. Dancers move in a counter clockwise direction around the hall. |
Round Dances are choreographed to all dance rhythms. |
They can be Two-step, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Tango, Quickstep, Mambo, Salsa, Bolero, Paso Doble, Samba, etc. |
Robbie and Ray Roberts first took square dance lessons in
1972. When they went to dances after graduating, they were
fascinated by the circle of dancers doing ballroom steps between
tips. They were told it was Round Dancing!

Round Dances are given a "Phase Rating" from I-VI. For each of the rhythms, dance movements are standardized and Phase Rated. Most of the dances cued at Square Dances are Phases II, III, and IV. Phases V and VI are usually danced at higher level Round Dance Clubs. |
Many teachers currently believe Round Dancing should be called "Ballroom Dancing to Cues" because the general public does not know the meaning of Round Dancing. Round Dancing is a real bargain for someone who likes to Ballroom dance! |
